New 2 x 6.3-ton double-girder overhead crane at Cerco: 50 cm extra hook travel

How do you replace a 50-year-old overhead crane while making better use of the available height in an existing workshop?

At Cerco in Braine-le-Comte, OHIS Industrie installed a new double-girder overhead crane equipped with two 6.3-ton hoists.

By opting for raised bridge girders, we were able to optimise the crane geometry to suit the existing building. The result: approximately 50 cm of additional hook travel. This extra half metre makes a significant difference when moving and positioning containers and heavy machinery inside the workshop.

The new installation also offers a high degree of flexibility. The two 6.3-ton hoists can be operated either individually or in tandem, depending on the load and application.

The crane is operated completely wirelessly using a Tele Radio remote control, while the other main components of the installation are supplied by STAHL CraneSystems.

A great example of how replacing an ageing overhead crane can offer much more than simply renewing the equipment. With the right crane design, it is also possible to optimise the available lifting height and significantly improve the versatility of the installation.
